MONTREAL, May 22, 2014 – The Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon is proud to be participating in the first Montréal physiquement active summit, taking place today. As a new partner of Montréal physiquement active, the Marathon organization is joining nearly 350 stakeholders from various milieus who share a common interest: to improve the quality of life of Montrealers by promoting physical activity and healthy living. “The Marathon is the most popular running event in Quebec and its team would like to get more involved in its community. And so, the organization intends to pull together to make Montreal a physically active city”, ” said Dominique Arsenault, Marathon spokesperson.

Given the sheer popularity of running, Ms. Arsenault suggested exploring the idea of extending running events surrounding the Marathon over an entire weekend, in collaboration with the City and its partners. Not only would this suggestion likely help to increase participation rate for runners of all levels, but also offer more flexibility in terms of logistics, while maximizing the event’s impact.

During this event, which ends tomorrow, and in the presence of Mr. Dimitrios (Jim) Beis, Member of the Executive Committee of Montreal and responsible for procurement, sports, leisure and communities of diverse origins, and Ms. Sylvie Bernier, 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games champion and healthy lifestyle ambassador for the Summit, participants discussed the current situation, challenges and keys to success for promoting healthy lifestyles among citizens. “The Marathon has always encouraged people of all ages to get fit while having fun,” states Dominique Arsenault. “As a new partner, we will be able to stay up to date on factors that promote Montrealers’ well‑being and make sure they are taken into consideration through future innovative partnerships,” she adds.

About the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon

This year marks the 24th edition of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon. Organized by Festival de la Santé, in conjunction with Competitor Canada, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is the world’s largest running series, with over 500,000 runners participating in events worldwide every year. The series started in 1998 with the simple idea of making running fun, which has transformed the running landscape by infusing the course with live bands, cheer teams and entertaining water stations, creating a block-party atmosphere for participants and spectators alike. Today, the series of marathons and half-marathons has spread to more than 28 destination cities, drawing visitors from around the world. Over the 17-year history of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, charity partners have raised more than $300 million through the events for a variety of worthy causes.
